![]() ![]() Upgrade of the T-80BV tanks to the T-80BVM standard continued in 2019 when another 31 tanks were delivered. However these initial tanks lacked some features of the T-80BVM demonstrator, that was revealed in 2017. These operational tanks were first publicly revealed during a military parade in 2018. In 2018 a first batch of 31 T-80BV tanks was upgraded to the T-80BVM standard. However in 2017 Russian MoD signed a contract to refurbish and upgrade a total of 62 T-80BV tanks to the T-80BVM standard in order to keep them in operational service. This article suggests that the T-80BV tanks were being upgraded as far back as 2018: However, Russia tends to refurbish and upgrade a lot of their older tanks, but they don't appear to have cottoned on to keeping them in adequate storage conditions, which leads to a lot of problems. Joke’s on them if they do.īased on what I've read, production of new T-80s ended in 1992. If your 20,000 is talking about max rounds per barrel, they stop firing where you aim them after a couple thousand, which makes them a far less lethal drain on Russian ammunition on one hand when your forces aren’t concentrated in one big spot, and conveniently presents them for counter battery radar on the other hand. The reality is that those 6000 need time and effort to either restore the gun ior cannibalise its barrel (CC showed some evidence for this happening), and the more you pull and deeper you dig, the harder what you’ve got left ends up being and the longer each subsequent batch becomes. And if they don’t ration their barrel life, they’re royally screwed.Īlso keep in mind that when the CC video was made 3 weeks ago, there were 2000 barrels in the field (approx 1000 lost since), and the estimated 6000 conceivably restorable ones in mothball yards… can’t all be conjured up on the battlefield overnight. It’s still a solid, meaningful 25% addition to the daily attrition from destroyed guns. Thing is, even if we’re firing 10-15k a day and going 2000/barrel or 3000/barrel, it’s still not a rounding error. If you’re talking about daily shells fired - it depends heavily on who you ask (different governments have been producing different range estimates at different periods between November and now). ![]()
